My name is Papa Latsouck Birame Faye, a Cloud Operations and Site Reliability Engineer with over 5 years of experience operating and scaling highly available, production-grade infrastructure across cloud, Kubernetes, and data center environments. My academic background combines a Master’s degree in Computer Science and Networking with an early foundation in physics, which shaped my analytical approach to complex systems and problem-solving. I began my professional journey in IT support and infrastructure operations, where I developed strong fundamentals in system administration, networking, and incident handling in multilingual and international environments. I later transitioned into large-scale infrastructure roles, working as a Network and Data Center Engineer with Cisco, where I supported mission-critical environments, led incident escalation processes, and gained hands-on experience with routing, switching, and hardware reliability in global production systems. Since 2022, I have been working as a Site Reliability Engineer at Rakuten Group, focusing on cloud and Kubernetes-based platforms at scale. In this role, I own end-to-end production incident management, design and automate operational runbooks, improve observability and alerting, and proactively validate system resilience through load and fault-tolerance testing. My work emphasizes reducing operational toil, improving MTTR, and embedding reliability into system design through automation, CI/CD optimization, and strong post-incident learning practices. Across my career, I have consistently operated at the intersection of cloud infrastructure, reliability engineering, and operations, collaborating closely with product and engineering teams to ensure platform stability, scalability, and performance. Currently based in Seoul, South Korea, I am driven by continuous improvement, operational excellence, and building resilient systems that scale reliably under real-world production pressure.

I have spent 15 years building and shipping production software, the last 6+ of those managing engineers and engineering managers. I went from engineer to practice lead at a US federal digital services consultancy, running 4 teams of 28 engineers on a $20M/year platform, then led a 15-person product and engineering org through a legacy modernization and a rebuild of how it planned and shipped. I am still hands-on, mostly Go and Python, and I run my own data pipelines and an agentic coding setup that routes between local and hosted models depending on the task. I live in Busan and hold an F-6 visa, so there is no sponsorship or permit change involved in hiring me. I have worked remote and async-first since 2018. I am looking for remote-in-Korea or Busan-based engineering leadership, and I am happy to travel to Seoul regularly.
