Packative is building the operating system for the packaging industry. We are looking for a hands-on Head of AI & Engineering to lead our engineering team, shape our applied AI research, and turn technical advances into reliable products and commercial value.

You will work directly with the Tech CEO and Product to define technical direction, strengthen execution, and build a team that takes ownership from research and experimentation through production delivery.

You naturally follow new research, model releases, open-source projects, and engineering tools. You experiment yourself and constantly ask: How should this change what we build and how we build it?

You combine research depth with strong software engineering judgment. You can challenge a research approach, review architecture, write code, and help the team solve difficult problems.

You care about understanding customers and their industry. You want your work to become something people use, trust, and pay for.

What You’ll Do

Own technical direction. Translate product and business goals into a clear engineering and AI research roadmap.
Lead applied AI research. Define research questions, experiments, evaluation methods, and milestones. Balance technical differentiation with practical product opportunities.
Turn research into products. Guide promising approaches through validation, integration, deployment, and improvement based on customer use.
Strengthen engineering execution. Set standards for architecture, code quality, testing, security, deployment, and production reliability.
Build and lead the team. Recruit and mentor engineers and researchers. Establish clear responsibilities and help people become more independent.
Stay hands-on. Contribute to prototypes, technical design, code reviews, difficult implementation work, and critical production issues.
Lead AI-first development. Apply coding agents, automated evaluation, and increasingly autonomous development workflows with clear human oversight.
Manage priorities and resources. Make explicit trade-offs across research investment, product delivery, technical debt, quality, and operating cost.
Maintain research discipline. Establish reproducible experiments, meaningful baselines, technical documentation, and clear evidence of progress.
Coordinate external research partners and technical reporting where relevant.

What We’re Looking For

Senior-level software engineering experience (5+ years), including architecture and production system ownership.
Strong applied AI/ML experience, including rigorous experimentation and evaluation.
A track record of taking AI capabilities from research or prototype into real products.
Experience leading engineers, researchers, or complex technical projects across teams.
Strong coding ability, including Python, and practical knowledge of modern ML frameworks and backend systems.
Ability to turn ambiguous goals into executable plans and explain technical trade-offs clearly.
High ownership, curiosity, and resourcefulness in a startup environment.
English/Korean bilingual communication preferred.

A master’s or PhD in AI, computer science, or a related field.
Experience leading funded R&D projects and external research collaborations.
Experience with B2B SaaS, enterprise software, or manufacturing workflows.
Publications, patents, or open-source contributions demonstrating technical depth.
Experience building teams and operating AI systems at scale.

You will work directly with our Tech CEO and help shape the company’s technology strategy, AI capabilities, hiring, and engineering organization.

For someone who demonstrates company-level technical leadership and commercial impact, this role can develop into a future CTO position.

Employment type: Full-time (including a 3-month probation period)

자격 요건

아키텍처 설계 및 프로덕션 시스템 운영을 포함한 시니어급 소프트웨어 엔지니어링 경력 5년 이상.
엄밀한 실험과 평가를 포함한 응용 AI/ML 실무 경험을 갖춘 분.
AI 기술을 연구 또는 프로토타입 단계에서 실제 제품으로 발전시킨 경험이 있는 분.
엔지니어·연구원을 이끌거나 여러 팀이 참여하는 복잡한 기술 프로젝트를 주도한 경험이 있는 분.
Python을 포함한 높은 수준의 코딩 역량과 주요 ML 프레임워크 및 백엔드 시스템에 대한 실무 지식을 갖춘 분.
모호한 목표를 실행 가능한 계획으로 구체화하고 기술적 선택의 장단점을 명확하게 설명할 수 있는 분.
스타트업 환경에서 높은 책임감과 호기심을 바탕으로 해결책을 찾아 실행하는 분.
